Atelier506 “Ukatousen”
There exist many amazing creators in Japan, and also the rest of the world, who are still unknown. But with the lack of media in Japan to provide a means to introduce these creative minds, we decided to create an online platform titled “Atelier506 Ukatousen” in which we focus on creators in the fields of art, design, fashion, technology, etc.
Through this site, we’ve met and interviewed new artists and creators, trying to understand their various backgrounds. We hope that our readers and get to know these creatives through our interviews and their artwork.
The subtitle “Ukatousen” was a suggestion from out site advisor & photographer Yasumasa Yonehara. This word is derived from ancient Chinese Shenxian thought, and it means “a person sprouting wings and flying up to heaven as an immortal” by direct translation. We decided to include this word as a subtitle with the addition of Yasumasa’s interpretation: “When one focuses on one thing, that one thing becomes as big as the universe.”
Through “Atelier506 Ukatousen,” we strive to bring content focusing on creators who are head on with their work, with their intents and dreams that go beyond heaven and bigger than the universe.
